Castle Lanes in Racine, WI invites you to “visit the wild side of bowling.” And once you get there, you’ll quickly understand what they’re talking about.
The whole alley has a great Northwoods theme with plenty of true Wisconsin flair, including spectacular nature scenes and large animals including deer, fish and geese on the walls. You can check out some pictures below:
But the Northwoods atmosphere doesn’t mean that the alley is behind the times. On the contrary, Castle Lanes features high-quality, new house balls, HDTVs, as well as free Wi-Fi and iPod hookups.
The alley is owned and operated by Phil Ontko, a Racine Bowling Hall of Fame member, and his wife Patti. A major renovation was completed in May of 2008, turning Castle Lanes into the alley it is today.
The new look quickly brought some big-time recognition to Castle Lanes. It was named as one of the 95 bowling centers you must see before you die in a 2008 issue of Bowlers Journal international magazine, Best Bowling in Milwaukee’s WISN TV’s A – List contest and Best Bowling in the Racine Journal Times Reader’s Poll.
The bowling leagues at Castle Lanes are something special, as well. In addition to already low prices, league perks include unlimited coffee for day leagues, free drinks for the first teams to finish as well as for a string of strikes or pins over average, and a $100 award for 300 games or 800 series. Service is also of the utmost importance, as a machine malfunction resulting in a 5-minute delay means that league bowlers get their money back.
In addition to the action on the lanes, there’s plenty else to do at Castle Lanes. For one, you can catch an NFL or other sports game in stunning quality on the Sports Bar TVs. Castle Lanes also supports the local sports scene, serving as a sponsor of the local Racine Threat semi-pro football team.
But there’s also an attraction you might not expect to find at a bowling alley: volleyball! The outdoor courts at Castle Lanes feature over 1,200 tons of imported sand, an outdoor beach bar, and league play.
Who knew you could feel the experience of an oceanside sand volleyball court and a Northern Wisconsin deer hunt all in one place? Castle Lanes in Racine is a hybrid of old-time Wisconsin atmosphere and cutting-edge convenience, and they’ve pulled it all together wonderfully.
