French Lick Indiana may be a small place (population: 1,807) but it does have a few claims to fame.
For one, it is the hometown of former NBA superstar Larry Bird.
Secondly, it has become a big casino destination in the modern era and in 2006 its central entertainment spot, the French Lick Resort, reopened to much publicity.
Of the most interest to us is one particular indoor resort activity: the six lane bowling alley. It’s called Pluto’s Alley and features not only bowling but also an arcade, pool tables, pizza and a full bar.
The resort dates all the way back to 1845 as the French Lick Springs Hotel, a lodging for the many visitors drawn to nearby mineral springs and other natural features of the area.
Today it has a 42,000 foot square-foot casino, a 27,000 square-foot spa, an 18-hole golf course, several high-class restaurants and shops, horseback riding, hiking trails and more.
As they put it, the resort is a “merging of historic past with modern present” and if you travel to French Lick you can hit the lanes and do so much more.
