Candlepin Bowling is a variety of bowling only found in a select few areas, mostly Canada and the northeastern United States. In many of these areas, it is even more popular than regular ten-pin bowling!
For a great spot to enjoy some candlepin bowling in Nashua, New Hampshire, check out Leda Lanes. From the first glace at the alley’s website, you can tell what it’s all about, as the large “L” in their logo is designed in the shape of a candle pin, meaning they have a large cylindrical shape with identical tops and bottoms. This shape resembles a candle, hence the name.
There are also great deals to be had at Leda Lanes. The biggest one is a Sunday morning special. You can enjoy all you can bowl for $6 from 9am to Noon. Shoe rental is even included. Also, seniors (60 years and older) get free shoe rental at all times. In addition to open bowling, there are also a variety of tournaments and leagues available at Leda Lanes.
If you’re new to the candlepin style, don’t worry! The Leda Lanes website gives a great introduction in a special “Candlepin Help” section. You’ll find a complete list of candlepin rules as well as a list of helpful links to other candlepin-related websites.
They even have a separate bowling area known as Leda’s Lighthouse, which is Glow Bowling. This is also where kid’s parties are held.
