This alley right in downtown Philly claims it is “strikingly different.” And after checking out North Bowl Lounge Lanes, we agree with the assertion.
History and Philly Uniqueness
The history of North Bowl is a very interesting one. Founder Oron Daskal was “fed up” with the endless smoky bars of the Philly nightlife scene, so he set out to change all that and create the type of hang-out spot the city was lacking. And his decision to add a bowling alley was an excellent move. He converted an old mechanics garage into an awesome hang-out that offers so much than just a place to bowl.
The alley’s website describes this very well:
From the retro benches from bowling alleys of the 50s to the sculptural bar and glass enclosed pod that overlooks the lanes from the lounge, North Bowl is a place that is truly unique to Philadelphia. Its not just about bowling, it’s about the atmosphere and the overall experience.
High Tech Web Presence
North Bowl’s official website also gives you much more than just a static listing of basic facts we’ve come accustomed to seeing for many bowling alleys.
You can choose from five different virtual tours that take you around all parts of the building. They also have an awesome feature for site navigation in which you click on one of 10 pins in the familiar triangular position to get to the different pages.
The Food Menus: Great Options
Keeping in line with the overall atmosphere, North Bowl’s food offerings are more than typical alley fare. They have a variety of dishes including skewers (Thai beef, herbed chicken and grilled shrimp) and plenty of interesting sandwiches including Cuban Chicken.
It’s a good thing Daskal wasn’t completely happy with Philly’s nightlife, or else this cool alley would never have been created.
