It’s 4am on a Wednesday and you’re seriously craving some bowling. What can you do?
In most places, you’re simply out of luck, as it’s unlikely you will find an alley that can accommodate your late-night bowling hunger. But if you live in the Hartford, Connecticut area, there’s one bowling center, Callahan’s Bowl-O-Rama, that has you covered; in fact, it is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!
History of Bowl-O-Rama
Callahan’s Bowl-O-Rama has served the Newington, CT community for quite a long time, as it dates all the way back to 1959. The alley’s history is an interesting one, as Frederick (Bud) Callahan, a respected Newington police officer, decided with his wife Loretta to build a bowling alley on the family’s land in town.
This alley would become the Bowl-O-Rama, and despite Bud’s activities founding the alley, he still found time to earn a promotion to Detective Lieutenant in the squad. The Bowl-O-Rama has been owned and operated by the Callahan family to this day, including Bud’s sons Fred III and Rip, and now their children. The Callahan’s hope to get the fourth generation of family members to join the operation and continue long into the future.
Bowling, Deals and Fun
Despite its being open 24/7, there are plenty of reasons why bowlers would want to check out Callahan’s Bowl-O-Rama. Open bowling carries reasonable rates, and there are also specials including a family special on Sundays with $2 games from 8am-Noon and $2.25 from 6pm to midnight.
There are a number of leagues offered as well as bowling tournaments held at the Bowl-O-Rama. They can handle parties of both the kid’s birthday and corporate variety, and the on-site pro shop can hook you up with custom balls and all the accessories.
Finally, to cap a successful day on the lanes, look no further than the Perfect Score Lounge, where you can enjoy food and a beer or mixed drink in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

I had never been there before and the staff was very unfriendly. They made my group and some others change lanes in the middle of our games! In addition, their bowling balls are horrible. Overall a very bad experience. I would recommend trying out other bowling alleys!
