The story behing Bowlmor Lanes is a classic one. It was an incredibly successful alley from an era long gone that completely lost its popularity and fell apart during bowling’s fall from grace in the 1990s.
But after a young entrepreneur visited the dilapidated center in Greenwich Village at 110 University Place in 1994, he turned it all around into a lucrative business for the modern age, and one that celebrated bowling as a hip activity to be enjoyed in a lavish, elegant location.
There are now several different alleys operating under the Bowlmor brand, but the Times Square project is the most recent, and by far the most ambitious. The official website announces that they have “taken bowling to new heights,” and its 45 luxury lanes are divided into 6 separate themed lounges. The themes range from Coney Island to Chinatown and each features a different decor and atmosphere.
Everything about Bowlmor Lanes is incredibly upscale, and the food and drink options at the facility certainly do not disappoint. The on site bar and restaurant The Stadium Grill features seating for 220 and an 80-foot bar.
The menu is by celebrity chef David Burke, who serves up a delicious variety of dishes ranging from classic sirloin burgers to meatloaf with garlic prawns and sausage and shrimp macaroni and cheese.
Many of the favorites are also available on the lane menu, so you can get them delivered to your mini Coney Island or whatever theme lounge you are bowling in.
Not surprisingly, celebrity sightings are not rare at Times Square, and the list of clients that have held parties and events at Bowlmor Lanes is full of big names. Bowlmor Lanes probably wouldn’t work in many cities other than New York City, but in the bustling environment, it is certainly doing quite well.
