For a few alleys on this site, you might hear that “we’ve never seen a place like this” or something similar. Chelsea Piers in Manhattan, however, takes this to a completely different level.
The historic piers which house the Chelsea Piers Sports & Entertainment Complex offer quite a lot, including film and television production facilities, a health club, a day spa, two basketball courts, an indoor complex for lacrosse and soccer and a dance studio? Did I forget anything? Oh yeah. A 40 lane premium bowling alley.
Bowling on the Piers
The Chelsea Piers bowling alley is a very fun and upscale experience. Its 40 lanes are state of the art and has 8 private lanes in “Club 300,” a VIP area. It has extensive food and catering menus and will provide lane-side service for both food and drinks. Not unexpectedly, such a flashy venue does command a bit of a higher price tag than some of the alternatives, but many bowlers say it’s worth it for the environment. And they do offer a variety of specials including a Happy Bowling Hour and a Bowl Your Brains Out promotion.
There’s so much to do on-site that bowling will likely only be the beginning.
History
The Chelsea Piers used to be a passenger ship terminal back in the early 1900s, having served luxury liners including the Lusitania and Titanic.
After the piers fell into neglect due to various construction developments in Manhattan, their purpose shifted to a recreational one. Today’s Sports and Entertainment complex was constructed in 1994.
