There’s only one bowling alley in Fort Meyer, VA (in the DC area) and it’s a great time. That is, assuming you know how to get in.
Fort Meyer Bowling Center is located on a military base, and actually making it to the lanes takes a bit of work.
You don’t need to be a member of the military to bowl, fortunately, but you do need to have a government-issued ID and licensed vehicle. When you drive up, you will need to stop by two security checkpoints and submit to a brief vehicle search.
Once you go through this process, you can enjoy the real fun. Bowling games are cheap, there are events like Rock and Roll Fridays and Saturdays, and the food is tasty and affordable, with burgers and pizza highlighting the menu. Chili cheese fries are also a popular item, and you can eat a meal without putting a big dent in your wallet, unlike the more trendy bowling centers around the DC area.
If you choose to go with a group, you can enjoy special rates. One package offered from 7am-5pm Monday through Friday offers bowlers 2 games with shoe rental plus pizza and a soft drink for just $11 per person.
If you want to enjoy a fun weekend out at the alley, Rock and Roll Fridays and Saturdays feature colored lights, music and even free game coupons for colored head pin strikes. Best of all, unlike most alleys that jack up the prices during their special nights, Rock and Roll games are only $3 (including shoes), and the special runs from 8pm-midnight.
With great prices and a nice atmosphere, the Fort Meyer Bowling Center is an excellent place to bowl a few games with friends or family. Just don’t roll up in an unregistered car or a fake ID!
